The project

A working model of rural energy and enterprise, built village by village.

Over the past decade, Mlinda has designed, installed and operated an integrated mini-grid and enterprise programme across Jharkhand.

The rural energy challenge

Millions of rural households live with unreliable, low-quality supply. Enterprises can't operate machinery, farmers can't irrigate on schedule, and evening activities stop when the grid drops out.

The solar mini-grid solution

Right-sized solar generation plus storage, distributed through a local network, metered per household and enterprise, and operated by professional technicians.

The enterprise programme

Around each grid, Mlinda supports productive-use enterprises with equipment, coaching, market linkages and access to finance.

OUR STORY

A Decade of Progress.

2013–2015

Early deployments

First solar mini-grids installed in remote Jharkhand villages, proving reliable off-grid supply is possible.

2016–2017

Productive-use pilots

Moved beyond lighting to test how power could support small enterprises and agriculture.

2017–2019

Scaling infrastructure

Expanded the mini-grid fleet and formalised MSEPL as the operating company.

2019–2023

Enterprise-led growth

Structured enterprise development, market linkages and access to finance became core to the model.

TODAY

Proven economic model

A replicable model of rural energy plus economic development, ready to scale with partners.
